DHL Supply Chain has partnered with Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. to launch a Narrowband Internet of Things (NB IoT) application at a car station in Liuzhou, China. The IoT solution implemented, utilizing existing infrastructure and limited investment, aims to promote and simplify yard management from warehousing to manufacturing logistics, thereby significantly improving on-site warehousing processing time. The concept validation will continue until the end of September, with 100 DHL drivers in an area with 30 docks.
"By leveraging Huawei and China Mobile's narrowband IoT technology, we are able to design and develop this unique solution. Supported by a range of industrial and multimedia IoT protocols and interfaces, it provides connectivity, intelligent operation, and device management functions. Exploring new technologies such as narrowband IoT is one of the many ways we are advancing our digital journey in China," explained Zou Yin, CEO of DHL Supply Chain Greater China.
Logistics involving warehousing to manufacturing processes may face time-consuming and inefficient issues, especially in locations with high supply delivery turnover rates. These deliveries are crucial to the manufacturing process, with high truck turnover rates at major sites. When it is necessary to handle goods at different terminals at the manufacturing site, delays may occur, such as when the tires arrive at the starting point of the assembly line instead of the ending point. Trucks must be guided to the correct location in order to effectively use the dock and unload goods at the correct location.
